It seems as if we have enough judges to begin the match ups during preseason week. This season, the scoring will be similar to DCI.

There will be two GE judges, and both judges will judge the effectiveness of the show from a visual and musical standpoint - we will NOT split them up into GE Visual and GE Music. They judge the effectiveness of the show as a whole. Each GE judge will have a max of 20 points - giving GE a total of 40.

Music Ensemble (Analysis) will be 20 points.
Brass will be 20 points.
Percussion will be 20 points.

The total of these 3 will be divided in half, which means the max for music performance will be 30 points.

Visual Ensemble (Analysis) will be 20 points.
Visual Performance (Proficiency) will be 20 points.
Colorguard will be 20 points.

The total of these 3 will be divided in half, which means the max for visuals as a whole will be 30 points.

That means, as usual, a perfect score will be 100.

GE = 40
Music = 30
Visual = 30
Total = 100

Looks like everything but perc is taken which I have absolutely zero experience in, I guess I'm shut out :/ I want first dibs on GE or music ensemble in the second round pls

In order to include everyone this matchup, I decided to open up two more GE spots. One of those spots will go to cjbuckley. That means there is one more GE spot available. I believe DCI uses 4 GE judges sometimes - so it’s not entirely unusual. For future matchups, we’ll go back to only 2 GE judges unless it’s necessary to add more.

gcurrier will take the last GE spot :) I haven't decided if I want to judge guard and percussion or just judge guard and use the percussion scores from DCI.

How much experience would you need to judge the percussion category?

Good question. Even though this judging game is just for fun and our amusement, I still prefer that you have some experience with percussion or, at the very least, have enough experience with music that you can proficiently evaluate what the percussion section is trying to achieve and how well it is achieved. Do you feel comfortable enough to judge percussion? If so, you totally can take that spot on the judging panel :-)

However, I should add that I don't expect perfection. As much as I would love to really be a DCI judge, I'm not a professional DCI adjudicator. Just try to judge with the best of your ability and refrain from bias. I know that some of these shows might be our favorites, but judge realistically. That's all I expect :)

I would be happy to judge percussion, I will give it my best.

What a CRAZY way to start the season with a TIE! Based on the awards, it looked like Crown was going to take this one. SURPRISE! Interesting first round.
