II Gold Medalist< *************************** ___________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________Corps Description________________________________ The Platinum Regiment is a 150 member drum corps ensemble that is based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Although this is a relatively new ensemble in the FMA circuit, dating back to season 30, we are a proud 3-time division gold medalist. The Platinum Regiment is known refining and innovating the edge of perfection and teaching their members how to achieve their maximum potential. The Platinum Regiment plays exclusively on Yamaha Brass and Percussion, being also the first drum corps to utilize the Cornet as a soprano brass instrument, creating a much purer brass sound. Platinum Regiment enters season 46 with their show entitled "Art(isms)" by the music of Randall Standridge. Art(isms) is a concert work in three movements. The piece is inspired by various painting techniques and artistic movements. The corps visually represents the ideas that are represented by the artist on the field and musically portray the style of the artists' hand. In the center of the field, an artist, facing towards the audience, is painting on a canvas and by the end of each movement, a giant canvas prop is revealed and represents the style of the art.
The first movement, Pointillism, is inspired the pointillistic movement in art. Imagine an artist's brush dabbing furiously on the canvas, leaving dots of colors that are brilliant in their own existence but are only part of a larger whole. The art presented at the end of the movement is Georges Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte".
The second movement, Surrealism, is inspired by the dream-like non-logic of the great surrealists.The art presented at the end of the movement is Salvador Dali's "Persistence of Memory"
The final movement, Abstract Expressionism, is inspired by the metropolitan feel of the cities where this movement flourished, and the frenetic, high-energy painting style of Jackson Pollock. A percussion feature is added from the original music to musically represent the energy of Pollock's work. The art presented at the end of the movement is Jackson Pollock's "No. 5, 1948"
