After a season off due to travel abroad in China, I am pleased (relieved?) to announce the return of the Lexington Legends! With Season 27, we have decided to put a show on the field with a little bit of everything. Presenting our Season 27 program... A Midsummer Night's Dream Show!
Our identity has centered primarily (almost exclusively) on Romantic music, and this show will start off with these roots in mind. Our opening number will start off with music from the Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare by Richard Strauss, and will transition into the main allegro music from Felix Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream Overture.
The middle movement will feature music I heard on a sweltering hot day at Nationals baseball Park in DC, and to me just feels like summer. This music is much more contemporary than Strauss and Mendelssohn, however; the section will feature In the Summertime as performed by Mungo Jerry.
The final movement is in two sections, and will begin by recalling Mendelssohn with the Scherzo from his Incidental Music of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Mostly serving as the drum break, this music will transition into the finale, which features (in my mind) the most stereotypical drum corps piece of all time: Malaguena!
We hope you enjoy our show!
And in a completely unrelated bit of news, I will in fact be writing marching band articles again this season. If you have ideas for things you would like me to do, send a message. Seriously. I can take criticism too if it doesn't consist of "your article was awful" so feel free to message me!
