Ever attend a marching competition with a very good showing of bands? Everyone always assume that the higher classes 3A-6A would contain the grand champion of the competition, but then there are those smaller marching bands that can really wow the socks off the judges. I haven't really seen this happen personally, but I've seen a few on youtube. Check these bands out...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xCV7z-Vqbc - Williamstown H.S. - 2nd Overall behind Lakota West which is a talented high school organization in Ohio.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap7sxSotKQA - Bourbon County H.S. -
2nd @ KMEA State Finals behind their rivals Adair Co.

SN: I know that the classifications vary by state, but in Georgia, these bands would be considered Class AA - 41-59 winds

In Kentucky, it is by school size with 5 classes. Williamstown is 1A, Adair is now 2A and Bourbon is 3A. Bourbon has grown significantly since that video, I want to say they are around 80 members+ now. Adair is slightly smaller than them. There's also Beechwood HS which is a rival of Williamstown who is small but can pack a punch. As well Russell Co. is a rival of Adair and Bourbon. They're fairly small but can pack a punch. The thing about Kentucky is that by most other states' standards, we have a ton of smallish bands We only have 2 bands that are pushing or over 200 (Lafayette and North Hardin) and about 10-12 who are above 100. The rest are less than 100 and many less than 70. That's the reason that Kentucky don't have a lot of success(AKA making Finals) at Grand Nationals but we dominate 1A.

here's Willamstown from this year- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9G-iVW7EBA

Compared to other bands in our area, we are relatively small. Last year we had 180 members, and this year we have 160.
