Holy smokes, tonight was a wacky, wild, night for NYSFBC. Can't help but think it might be attributed to our new judges. We had the lowest score in the modern scoring system scored tonight. The band that has won 35/45(?) years is below newcomers to the division, and bands had quite large gaps between their scores tonight and their scores same time last year. Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Congrats to Strad, and the Victor Blue Devils for a great start to the season! Currently 1st place in the division.

Thank you! While I've done my best to push my kids, they have some of the best work ethic I've seen from a high school marching band. The level of improvement just from this passed Tuesday's rehearsal is nuts. I think we'll be up there right at the top battling for a championship this year :)

Side note: scores were a little weird... Some judges dumped on us a little where I was expecting to get a decent score (Visual effect) while the field music judge gave us a ridiculously high score. 90 in content and an 86 in achievement. what? an 8.8/10 in field music is very unrealistic for a first show lol. I want room to improve, not a score that is going to drop next weekend when we get a realistic score.

Definitely have the time of my life right now!

Alrighty! Here’s an update from the:

NEW PRAIRIE MARCHING COUGARS!

This past Saturday, September 8th, at the Goshen Crimson Marching Band Invitational, New Prairie placed 5/6 in ISSMA Open Class B, scoring a 57.22 overall and winning best solo musician caption!

We were competing with bands at least 45 members larger than us! The band placed below us had 138 members and we were 0.7 points away from the next band, having over 170 members. For us, a small band of about 90, we viewed these as a great first show!

(This is just a reminder that I am a junior in high school and if you want to ask me any questions about the show please do but I may have to ask higher up.)

Our next competition is still this weekend at Concord! Our school also won a local new competition (http://www.wndu.com/content/news/NewPrairieWinsPepRally.html) so for a chance to see the Marching Cougars life in action watch the live stream of WNDU at 5:00am Thursday Morning CENTRAL TIME.

Alrighty! Here’s an update from the:

NEW PRAIRIE MARCHING COUGARS!

This past Saturday, September 15th, at the Concord Minutemen Marching Invitational, New Prairie placed 2/6 in ISSMA Open Class B, scoring a 55 overall! This is very exciting for us as we are really new to the competitive scene and placed higher than bands that have been competing for many decades.

We were competing with bands at least 45 members larger than us! We did actually beat the band that came in front of us last week (168 on field members) and by a fair margin! (We have about 90 members.) The sound was incredible and the Drill looked sharp! We can’t wait till next weekend!

(This is just a reminder that I am a junior in high school and if you want to ask me any questions about the show please do but I may have to ask higher up.)

Our next competition is still this weekend at the Penn Carnival of Bands! Our pep rally went really well Thursday morning. For video of this seen links below. We also have football game performances on September 21 and October 5th and 12th.

Congrats Joel!!!

NYSFBC is going great, but odd. Scores in each division only have a ~5 point gap but last year in my division we had a band with an 80 and one with a 68... It looks like the judges are trying to cluster everyone.

We start competing next week in USBands and in two weeks New York. I'll post a link later tonight or tomorrow from our rehearsal today.

Congrats to Strad once again, still in first place! They are beating last year and 2016's champions by 2 points. This looks like it will be a succesful season for them!

Here's hoping anyway lol

We have a lot to improve on, and if they are going to keep giving us credit for the show we are putting out, I see not many bands can stand in our way of a National Class title. But like I said, we have a LOT to work on. I'm trying to get my brassline to start stepping up both musically and also visually. They seem to waste a lot of reps making huge visual errors which in turn is hurting my ability to fix things musically.

And now I am off to rehearsal! Let's hope I can get some serious work done before the big Bville show this weekend!

Side note: I'll be performing with the Brig Juice mini-corps at the end of the show! If anyone is around please don't hesitate to come out and watch!

Wow!!! I just found out the plan for our main prop. We have many small Dream Catchers but this one is huge.

A band parent is buying an old trampoline frame thats almost 15 feet in diameter. The parents are going to modify the frames and its shape. They're going to paint it, get threads and feather streamers. It's going to take a while (We're only going to get the frames Sunday). They might not be finished till late in the season but it will be worth it for sure!!!

Wow that sounds epic! We have a giant moon in the back middle of the field that has a dark side and a light side. It rotates around to match the part of the show we are on. It's 13 by 13 feet. We also have 25 12 foot high black backdrops that frame the field to help give the bend a better stage since we're kinda small lol

Last night was very good! We got first and a 77.15. Scores in 6A were pretty similar to NYSFBC so if we were scored by NYSFBC my guess is we would be 76-77 placing us near the top of the division. We all watched the band we were competing against and second place is what we were all expecting but we were pleasently suprised. I think it will be a great season!

Also, NYSFBC literally had a band beat a 35 year champion who was new to the division. The band hasn't done that since 1987. Congrats to them! (Cicero-North Syracuse)

Last night was pretty good. We thought our score would be a little higher but we're still pretty happy. Half of our division is a point within eachother.

Our music scores were high 80s to mid 90s, but our vis were 60s to 70s. Once we get vis down we could be scoring pretty high.

Alrighty! Here’s an update from the:

NEW PRAIRIE MARCHING COUGARS!

Two Saturdays ago, September 22th, at the Penn Carnival of Bands, New Prairie placed 6/6 in ISSMA Open Class B, scoring a 57! While the number was respectable we were all confused as we placed below Bands that we have beat elsewhere. Unfortunately the Penn Invitational has become known for its extreme biaseness and we are expecting better scorings which will put us more competitively going into regionals.

Still, we were the loudest, best sounding, and sharpest looking band there, and would have won a popular vote. This week we will be performing our entire show at an ISSMA Event in Plymouth. We are excited as we expect this to be an accurate indicator for regionals. Even with our lower score however we are ranked 9/13 regionally and this garuntees us a spot at the semi state competition where the best from the north and south regions compete to have the chance to go to State Finals in Lucas Oil Stadium! We are really excited and hope that we continue on in competition! Anyone who can see us this weekend should try to make it!

(This is just a reminder that I am a junior in high school and if you want to ask me any questions about the show please do but I may have to ask higher up.)

Our next competition is still this weekend at the ISSMA Band Event @ Plymouth High School!. For video of this see links below. We also have football game performances on October 5th and 12th.
