We are 2 days before the end of competition and Season 85 is already appearing to be a historic season for Fantasy Marching Arts. All four Unspecified ensembles, under the direction of Chris Rohn, have received perfect scores of 100 in prelims night, the first of which to ever occur in FMA. We have had a total of 125 Drum Corps perform on Prelims night with 63 of them making our Semifinals list, making this season the most active FMA Drum Corps has been since season 74. Here are the top 12 scoring ensembles from Prelims night, regardless of division (as well as some honorable mentions):

Corps of Unspecified Identity (1st - 100.000) receives perfect scores in all captions and a perfect 100, which is the first to ever occur for a corps on Prelims night. This is a slight improvement from their last competition on April 1st, where the corps scored a 99.985 at their home show.



Continuum (2nd - 98.290) earns the silver medal scoring 1.57 over reigning champion Nemesis. They took 2nd in Brass, Percussion, Vis. Perf., and Guard, and took 3rd in GE and Ensemble captions.



Nemesis (3rd - 96.700) took 2nd in GE and Ensemble captions over Continuum, but scored 7th or 8th in all other captions.



Wondermint Rainbow Cavaliers (4th - 96.325) continues to maintain a close gap between Nemesis, taking 3rd in Brass and Guard and 4th in all other captions.



Canada Corps (5th - 95.970) earns 3rd in Vis. Perf. over Wondermint, 4th in Brass and Guard, and 5th in all other captions.



Atlantic Volt DBC (6th - 95.135) rounds out the top 6 by earning 5th in Brass, Vis. Perf., and Guard, 6th in GE and Ensemble captions, and 7th in Percussion.



10th Regiment (7th - 94.930) maintains a close gap with 6th place Atlantic Volt( (just under .205) by tieing for 5th in Vis. Perf., scoring 6th in Brass, Percussion and Guard, and 7th in GE and Ensemble captions.



Sigma Regiment (8th - 93.465) took 7th in Vis. Perf., 8th in GE and Ensemble captions, 9th in Brass and Percussion, and 10th in Guard.



Starlights DBC (9th - 90.750) sits on an island at 9th place by maintaining an almost 3 point gap each between the corps directly above and below it. They received 11th in Brass and Percussion and 10th in the remaining six captions.



Aftershock NZ (10th - 87.440) secures 10th just .130 above Galactic Sound as the bottom three separate by only .140. They took 10th in Brass, 12th in Vis. Perf., 13th in overall Generall Effect and Vis. Ens., 14th in Mus. Ens., but earning an impressive 3rd place in Percussion puts them on top of the other two corps.



Galactic Sound (11th - 87.310) takes gold for Division 2 Prelims by earning an impressive 8th place in Brass and Guard, 11th in Mus. Ens., 12th in Percussion, GE, and Vis. Ens., and 13th in Vis. Perf.



Kanpeki-sa (12th - 87.300) earns silver for Division 2 Prelims, tieing Galactic Sound at 8th for Guard and earning 9th in Vis. Perf. The corps also took 11th in overall GE and Vis. Ens., but a 13th place finish in all three music captions widens the gap just enough for Galactic Sound to take the gold by .01 points.



Honorable Mentions:

Florida Dragon Regiment earns bronze for Division 2 prelims and 14th overall with a score of 85.195. They took 11th or 12th in Brass, Percussion, Vis, Perf. and Guard, 15th in Vis. Ens., 16th in Mus. Ens., and 17th in both GE captions.

Rebels wins Division 3 Prelims by a wide margin with a score of 69.645. 26th in Percussion, 27th in Brass and Guard, 28th in Vis. Perf. and Ens., 29th in Mus. Ens., and 31st in GE gives them an overall placement of 29th.

West Guards DBC takes Division 3 silver with an impressive 20th place in Vis. Perf., 27th, 28th, and 29th in Percussion, Guard, and Brass respectively, but scores under 39th place in GE and Ensemble captions. They received a score of 65.575 and 36th overall.

Laredo Consquistadors takes Division 3 bronze with a score of 63.135 and 39th overall. They received 37th in GE, Vis. Ens. and Perf., 38th in Mus. Perf., 39th in Percussion and Guard, and 42nd in Brass.

A total of 66 corps performed tonight for the Semifinals of Season 85 FMA Drum Corps Championship. To make this season even more historic, as mentioned by u/JCNoles, this season is also the first time since season 70 that more than 8 Division 1 corps have scored over 90. Placements remained the same from Prelims night, with the exception of the bottom 3 shifting places. Corps of Unspecified Identity takes gold and retains their perfect score of 100, the first of which to happen during Semifinals in FMA history. Corps of Unspecified Identity (1st - 100.000) retains their perfect score of 100, sweeping all captions yet again.

Continuum (2nd - 98.490) increases their score by +0.2 and earns themselves the silver medal yet again. They won Mus. Ens. over 3rd place finisher Nemesis by 0.03 points and retain the same caption placements as the previous night.

Nemesis (3rd - 97.035) earns bronze again and retains 2nd in GE and Vis. Ens., but received 3rd in Mus. Ens., 7th in Brass and Guard, and 8th in Vis. Perf. and Percussion.

Wondermint Rainbow Cavaliers (4th - 96.755) increases their score by a fair amount and closes the gap between Nemesis to just 0.28 points, opening up the possibility of them stealing the bronze medal. They finished taking 3rd in Brass and Guard again, rose to 3rd in Vis. Perf., and took 4th in all other captions.

Canada Corps (5th - 96.365) ties for 3rd in Vis. Perf. with Wondermint, keeps 4th in Brass and Guard, and 5th in all other captions.

Atlantic Volt DBC (6th - 95.595) takes 6th in Percussion over 10th Regiment by 0.03 points, but loses Brass by 0.05 points to the same corps from the previous night. They however still hold 5th in Guard and Vis. Perf. and 6th in GE and Ensemble captions.

10th Regiment (7th - 95.385) essentially maintain the same gap between 6th from the previous night and finishes 5th in Brass, 6th in Vis. Perf. and Guard, and 7th in the remaining captions.

Sigma Regiment (8th - 93.880) retain the same caption placements from the previous night; 7th in Vis. Perf., 8th in GE and Ensemble captions, 9th in Brass and Percussion, and 10th in Guard.

Starlights DBC (9th - 91.345) rises to 10th in Brass and stays 11th in Guard, but, despite finishing 10th in all other captions, still finish 9th overall.

Galactic Sound (10th - 88.100) increases their score substantially by 0.79 points to rise over Aftershock NZ by almost half a point. They win gold in Division 2 by the same exact margin of 0.01 points for a second night in a row. They take 8th place in Brass and Guard yet again, rise to 11th in Percussion, but fall to 13th in Music GE under Aftershock by 0.01.

Kanpeki-sa (11th - 88.090) rises to 11th over Aftershock NZ and takes silver for Division 2. They lose their tie with Galactic Sound in Guard and fall to 9th by 0.01 points. The corps keeps 9th in Vis. Perf. and 11th in overall GE and Vis. Ens. from the previous night, but still finish 13th in Brass and Percussion.

Aftershock NZ (12th - 87.670) finishes 10th in Division 1 but falls to 12th overall. They maintain their caption placements from the previous night; a whopping 3rd in Percussion, 12th in Vis. Perf., 13th in overall Generall Effect and Vis. Ens., 14th in Mus. Ens., with the exception to Brass that falls to 11th place under Starlights DBC.

Honorable Mentions:
- Quiksilver finishes 11th in Division 1 but 13th overall with a score of 86.375. They received high marks in GE and Ensemble captions by earning 9th in all four, accounting for a possible 5 point lead over 12th place Aftershock NZ, but 17th in Vis. Perf., 19th in Brass, 26th in Percussion and 27th in Guard keeps them out of the top 12
- Florida Dragon Regiment earns bronze again for Division 2 and 14th overall with a score of 85.890. They took 11th or 12th in Brass, Percussion, Vis, Perf. and Guard, 15th in Vis. Ens., 16th in Mus. Ens., and rise to 16th in both GE captions.
- Samurai rounds off the top 12 for Division 1 and earn 15th overall with a score of 83.235. They earn 156h in Vis. Ens. and Guard, 17th in GE, and 15th in the remaining captions.
- Rebels become the first Division 3 corps to break 70 by scoring a 70.515 and win Division 3 by 4.44 points. They place 29th overall, and although their Brass falls to 28th place, Rebels improve their GE to 29th as well as Vis. Perf., Percussion and Guard to 25th.
- West Guards DBC takes Division 3 silver and rise to 33rd overall with a score of 66.075. They retain their impressive 20th place finish in Vis. Perf., 27th and 28th in Percussion and Guard respectively, and rise to 27th in Brass, but still score under 39th place in GE and Ensemble captions.
- Laredo Consquistadors takes Division 3 bronze and improve their score slightly to 63.230. They remain 39th overall, keeping 37th in GE, Vis. Perf., but with Vis. Ens. falling to 38th with Mus. Ens. Guard rises to 38th and Percussion and Brass finish 39th and 42nd respectively, same as last night.

FMA SEASON 85 FINALS
What a season! A historic Season 85 of Fantasy Marching Arts comes to a close as we award three groups with the title of World Champion. Rebels joined FMA a week into the season for their very first season and comes out on top in Division 3. Razor thin margins occurred in Division 2 throughout the second half of the season, but first time Division 2 Kanpeki-sa narrowly takes the gold from reigning Division 2 champ Galactic Sound. And finally, Corps of Unspecified Identity receives a perfect 100 and wins their first Division 1 World Championship. For this edition of Recap Roundup, I'll do a recap for the top 12 in each division and then one final ranking for the overall top 12. Hope you enjoy!

The last perfect score to occur in FMA finals was a tie between Nashville Sound and the Dark Knights back in Season 71. Congratulations to Unspecified for the historic feat!



Continuum (2nd - 98.740) receives their 9th Division 1 silver medal, taking 2nd place in all 8 captions.



Nemesis (3rd - 97.450) earns the bronze medal for Division 1, receiving 3rd in GE and Ensemble captions, 7th in Guard, Vis. Perf. and Brass, and 8th in Percussion.



Wondermint Rainbow Cavaliers (4th - 97.090) reaches their highest Division 1 placement so far, finishing 3rd in Brass, Vis. Perf. and Guard, and 4th in all other captions.



Canada Corps (5th - 96.705) took 4th in Guard and Vis. Perf., 5th in Brass, GE and Ensemble captions, and 6th in Percussion.



Atlantic Volt DBC (6th - 96.095) took back Brass over 10th Regiment but fell to 6th in Vis. Perf. and Guard, and 7th in Percussion, but remained 6th in GE and Ensemble captions.



10th Regiment (7th - 95.955) closed their margin to Atlantic Volt by just 0.14 points and surged to 4th in Brass and 5th in Percussion, but fell to 7th in GE and Ensemble captions. Guard and Vis. Perf. remained at 5th place.



Sigma Regiment (8th - 94.370) finished 8th in GE and Ensemble captions as well as Guard, Vis. Perf., and Brass, and took 9th in Percussion.



Starlights DBC (9th - 91.990) rises to 9th in Brass, Guard, and Vis. Perf., and finished 10th in all other captions.



Aftershock NZ (10th - 87.905) keeps 3rd in Percussion, finished 10th in Brass, Guard, and Vis. Perf., and 11th in GE and Ensemble captions.

Kanpeki-sa (1st - 88.880) very narrowly takes the World Championship title after finishing 2nd place in both Prelims and Semifinals. The corps managed to add 0.070 to their daily point gain which was just enough to surpass Galactic Sound. They managed to win back Guard by only 0.02 points after tieing with Galactic Sound at Prelims and falling to 2nd at Semifinals. Despite scoring 3rd in Brass and Percussion, the corps secured 1st in Vis. Perf. and GE and Ensemble captions.



Galactic Sound (2nd - 88.820) takes the silver medal, topping their high score from the previous season. They won best Brass and Percussion performance over Kanpeki-sa by 0.925 points combined, and despite still scoring 2nd in GE and Ensemble captions, 2nd in Guard, and 3rd in Vis. Perf., only added 0.720 to their Semifinals score where Kanpeki-sa added 0.790. To show how small the margins really were, if Galactic Sound added 0.025 points to Mus. Ens. and Guard each, and 0.030 Points to Vis. Ens., they would take 1st in all of those captions and surpass Kanpeki-sa for the World Championship by the same 0.010 point margin seen at Prelims and Semifinals.



Florida Dragon Regiment (3rd - 86.370) received D2 bronze after leading in 1st for the first half of the season. They took 2nd in Brass and Vis. Perf., but loses Percussion to Galactic Sound after taking 1st in this caption at Prelims and Semifinals. They also finished 3rd in Guard and Ensemble captions, and 4th in General Effect.



Striders (4th - 81.895) reaches their highest Division 2 placement, taking 4th in Brass, Percussion and Vis. Perf., 5th in Guard, Mus. GE and Ensemble captions, and 6th in Vis. GE.



Red Blazers (5th - 80.025) ties their placement from last season and took 4th in Guard, 5th in Brass, Percussion, Vis. Perf. and Vis. GE, and 6th in Mus. GE and Ensemble captions.



Keystone DBC (6th - 78.270) finished an impressive 3rd in GE and 4th in Ensemble captions, but placed 9th in Guard and Percussion, and 10th in Brass and Vis. Perf.



Sound of the Times (7th - 77.185) took 6th in Percussion, Vis. Perf. and Guard, 7th in Mus. GE, Mus. Ens. and Brass, and 8th in Vis. GE and Vis. Ens.



The Mist (8th - 74.695) makes a solid comeback to FMA, taking 7th in Guard and Percussion, 8th in Mus. Ens. and Vis. Perf., 9th in Brass and Vis. Ens., and 10th in General Effect.



Legacy DBC (9th - 72.985) also sets a record for their highest score and D2 placement. They took 7th in Vis. Ens. and Vis. GE, 8th in Brass, 9th in Vis. Perf., 11th in Mus. GE, and 10th in remaining captions.



The Rising Glory Drum Corps (10th - 72.060) finished a solid 6th in Brass while leading in this caption for most of the season, 7th in Vis. Perf., 8th in Percussion and Guard, 11th in Ensemble captions and 12th in General Effect.



Spirit of Bucktown (11th - 71.870) finishes narrowly under Rising Glory, taking 8th in Mus. GE, 9th in Vis. GE and Mus. Ens., 10th in Vis. Ens., and 11th in all other captions.



Xperience (12th - 67.960) rounds off D2 finals, placing 9th in Mus. GE, 11th in Vis. GE, and 12th in all other captions.

Rebels (1st - 71.345) takes the Division 3 World Championship title with ease, despite performing for their very first season and joining the pack a week into competition. They win all captions with the exception of Vis. Perf., where West Guards takes the lead by 0.460 points.



West Guards DBC (2nd - 66.465) wins D2 silver, taking 1st in Vis. Perf., 2nd in Brass, Percussion and Guard, 3rd in General Effect, and 4th and 5th in Mus. and Vis. Ens., respectively.



Laredo Consquistadors (3rd - 63.885) places in D3 top three for the first time, taking 2nd in GE and Ensemble captions over West Guard, 4th in Vis. Perf., 5th in Guard, and 6th and 7th in Percussion and Brass, respectively.



Queen City Crusaders (4th - 62.765) takes 4th for their first season on FMA. They received 3rd in Guard, Vis. Perf. and Ensemble captions, 4th in Mus. GE, 5th in Brass and Percussion, and 6th in Vis. GE.



Supernova (5th - 62.250) finished 5th at finals despite leading for most of the season. They took 3rd in Brass, 4th in Percussion and Vis. GE., and 6th in all other captions.



Prescott Hotshots (6th - 62.240) place just 0.010 points under 5th place Supernova, taking 3rd in Percussion, 4th in Brass and Vis. Ens., 7th in Guard, and 5th in remaining captions.



Rose City DBC (7th - 58.905) took 7th in Mus. GE and Ensemble captions, 8th in Brass, Percussion and Vis. GE., 9th in Vis. Perf., and 10th in Guard.



Spartan DBC (8th - 58.545) places a solid 4th in Guard, creating a point spread of 0.515 over 9th place Worcester Hills, giving Spartan just enough to place 8th overall. They took 6th in Brass, 7th in Percussion and Vis. GE., and 10th or 11th in all other captions.



Worcester Hills Drum Corps (9th - 58.045) took 7th in Vis. Perf., 8th in Guard, Mus. GE and Ensemble captions, and 9th in Brass, Percussion and Vis. GE.

I like the combination of all divisions into a top 12. Definitely interesting to see how the current Div2 bleeds into the inactive Div1. Reminds me of Magic of Orlando in the Early 00's when they made DCI finals as a Division II corps.
