Welcome back ladies and gents. I waited until Day 3 to make the first true report of the season in order to allow as many marching bands as possible to compete. All the scores are so close right now that scores are swapping left and right. I will cover the Top 5 fom both today and yesterday.

Division 1:

Yesterday's Top 5:
1 Mighty Tiger Marching Band 57.300
2 The Marching Marchers 55.315
3 Southmore Hill Royal Regiment 55.220
4 BD14 54.940
5 Mt Sterling Trojans 54.910

Today's:
1 Mighty Tiger Marching Band 57.300
2 The Marching Marchers 57.300
3 Mt Sterling Trojans 56.575
4 Marching Bureaucrats 56.425
5 ILL Wind 56.055

Keep in mind that not every band had the opportunity to compete yesterday or today. Scores are so close that things shift every day. The Tigers took first yesterday and did not have a chance to compete today, giving the marchers a chance to tie their score. The Trojans, down a point, moved up to 3rd today. The Bureaucrats are hot on the Trojan's tail with ILL Wind taking 5th. BD14 and Southmore both fell out of the Top 5, falling to 8th and 6th, respectively.

Captions are all over the map right now, but Hussars and St Paul are coming out to show off. Captions are all tight and even the slightest shift in focus or a few missed energy points and change the game.

Division 2:

Yesterday's Top 5:
1 Sound of Fury - SoCA - Raiders 54.210
2 Sound of Corydon 54.095
3 The Pride of the Texas Hill Country 54.065
4 Austin Phoenix Marching Band 53.335
5 North Shore Senior High Band 52.830

Today's:
1 The Pride of the Texas Hill Country 55.665
2 Sound of Fury - SoCA - Raiders 55.110
3 Sound of Corydon 54.095
4 Austin Phoenix Marching Band 53.335
5 Red Devils 53.065

Today, Pride jumped from 3rd to first, passing Sound of Fury by more than half a point. North Shore fell from the Top 5, with Red Devils taking the 5th spot, less than half a point from 4th. Being only Day 3, a lot can happen. Division 2 was the boring division last season, but things can easily change.

North Shore and Pride have stepped up to bat. Sound of Corydon is holding their Top 5 spot by hanging onto music ensemble and GE music. Like Division 1, the points are tight and anything can happen.

Division 3:

Yesterday's Top 5:
1 Sapphire Sound Cadets 54.435
2 Musique a l'ecole 53.125
3 Bucaneers of the Emerald Coast 52.045
4 Cadets Band Corps 51.800
5 Renegade Valley Regiment 51.545

Today's:
1 Sapphire Sound Cadets 54.435
2 Bucaneers of the Emerald Coast 53.590
3 Musique a l'ecole 53.125
4 Cadets Band Corps 52.705
5 Renegade Valley Regiment 51.745

Other than the flop between 2nd and 3rd place, Division 3 isn't looking exciting yet. All except Sapphire improved their score, but they did so with no sudden leaps. Division 3 last season was characterized as being impossible to predict, yet this season has started out all but shaky. I can't wait to see future results.

Sapphire and Cadets have taken all captions! Other Division 3 directors, its time to start focusing. Concentrate your energy into one or two fields in order to get a foothold in a caption. From there, you can expand out and try to control more of the board. Other directors swear by the balanced approach, so division 3 directors can try that as well. Keep all your points equal (or with weight in only one category).

Well there you have it folks. Today was also the first regional day, though regionals were packed to the brim! Tomorrow isn't looking too good for bands, as there is only one competition, but I will see everyone Thursday, after Fma Southwest!

Sapphire Sound Cadets haven't competed since Sunday, so expect a big jump.
I'm treating them a lot like I'm treating my drum corps, so I think their scores should be about equal.

I'm excited, my marching band isn't even in the top 15, but they are 3rd in guard score. =D
