The Druids landed in the States last night for their first competition at the FMA Eastern Regional. Right off the bus there was an energy about the corps that could only be explained as electrifying.
Their Season 2 show is entitled "Spirits of the Night", taking the audience on a journey with Sally-- a little girl who lays down to sleep at night during the brass quintet feature of "Lullaby". As she settles down into her bed, though, the Spirits of the Night begin to taunt her, as every crevice of her room becomes a possible hiding place for a monster in Toccata and Fugue-- the guard (dressed in black with black masks) portray the images of her nightmares created by the shadows. In the ballad, Salvation is Created, she finally falls into a blissful sleeping release, where she can rest among the angels, before she awakes to Night on Bald Mountain, where all her nightmares flare dangerously out of control! Will Sally make it through her journey? The Druids won't spoil a thing-- they're saving the last horrah for Finals week!
As the scores were announced, the Druids held a solid 12th place of 22 Div. III corps with a score of 50.660.
"I am very proud of my boy's first show!" says Douglas Orsborn, executive director of the Druids, an all-male corps from Dublin, Ireland.
"They really came through and brought the show to life. Currently, we're sitting at 26th, which places us in the running for semi's. We're hoping to hold that place, if not rise up a little this season."
"Baby steps," says Albert Orsborn, co-director and brass caption head.
"We have no old kids from the FMB medalist year-- we're essentially a brand new corps."
