marching.art is a year-round fantasy drum corps game where "directors" build a virtual corps by drafting captions from real historical DCI (Drum Corps International) performances, register for a weekly show schedule, and compete on nightly-scored leaderboards across a decades-long director career. It runs two alternating season types on an identical 49-day/7-week calendar so play never stops: a Live Season driven by real DCI scores during the summer touring season, and an Off-Season driven by historical DCI results the rest of the year. Players progress through five classes — SoundSport, A Class, Open Class, and World Class (which share one draft-8-captions/score-nightly fantasy engine with escalating point caps and unlock requirements), plus Podium, a separate director-simulation mode with rehearsals, divisions, and staff. It's built as a React 18 + Vite frontend on a Firebase backend (Auth, Firestore, Cloud Functions), with Google Gemini for AI-generated news and avatars, and runs on a donation-only model with a closed-loop in-game currency (CorpsCoin) — no real-money purchases.
