The town is built on the steep banks of a trout stream and was founded in the early 1800's as a meeting place for farmers and modest timber operations in the region. The town's population was 2,000 in 1970 but declined to 1,200 at the last census. Recently, the revival of the high school band program (defunct for the past twenty years) has rekindled the spirit of this forgotten valley town. Townsfolk and school officials alike have banded together to raise awareness and create something the town can truly be proud of. Time will tell if the Marching Sparrows will be a success story for the marching arts in the region!
