The Chattanooga Jazz

Founded in 1909 as a community jazz ensemble, that ensemble morphed into the Chattanooga Jazz Drum and Bugle Corps in the 90s when its director at the time, Tyler Kissinger, realized the large popularity of DCI among high schoolers. The corps retains elements of its origin as a jazz ensemble as it often uses selections from jazz repertoire. Although it was a jazz band it has evolved to spark a love for all music in its community. Many time you will find a CJDBC show using selections ranging from hard bop to contemporary classical music to even death metal. The Corps plays a large part in its community in East, Middle, and West Tennessee, frequently donating used instruments and equipment to schools in need. The corps has staff all over Tennessee, really making the Tennessee marching band scene something to behold.
