Vesuvius
Repertoire
Based on the concert piece Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli, the show consists of 4 movements. The first creates the setting of a quiet village near a volcano, with light happy music. The second brings the darkness of the volcano into view the danger is brought to life through diminished chords and slower, heavier music. The third movement is the quiet before the storm with quick, quiet woodwind runs to represent the fleeing of people from the village before the eruption. Finally, the eruption. Powerful brass long tones with underlying woodwinds runs, bright reds and pitch black flags from the colorguard to represent ash and flames.
