Show Title
The Wooing of Étaín
Repertoire
The Wooing of Étaín fits the theme of rebirth that penetrates into the soul of this corps' return to competition, telling of the ancient story of Celtic reincarnation.

Mvt. 1 - The Wooing of Étaín by Adiemus

The show opens with a beautiful contemporary Irish ballad, introducing the main character of Etain, the wife of a powerful lord named Mirdir, and Fuamnoch, a jealous witch. A soaring soprano solo represents the character of Etain, a trembling baritone the voice of Mirdir, and a sinking minor section the theme for Fuamnoch, also represented by color guard actors. https://youtu.be/De6y6LisxBw

Mvt. 2. - Hamsterheid by Clanadonia

In the second movement, Fuamnoch's jealousy boils over into action. The audience watches as the witch readies her spell, aided by drum feature on traditional Celtic drums. The horns add the final touches of flare at the end, transforming Etain first into a pool of water, then a worm, and finally into a beautiful butterfly. https://youtu.be/vZoAeOO73R0

Mvt. 3 - Adiemus Reprise

Borrowing from the minor portion of the opening movement, this all brass ballad feature helps the audience to feel Etain's lement, building into the corps song, Horkstow Grange, a struggle of old and new forms, as she can see her beloved only as a butterfly in his garden. At the end of the movement, Etain lands in a glass of wine and is swallowed by the wife of another Celtic chieftan.

Mvt. 4 - Celtic Celebration by Nightcore

Using the upbeat pulse of this Irish electronica hit, the audience can feel the joy of Etain's rebirth to humanity as the daughter of the chieftan's wife.
