The North Bayshore "Sprit Of The Bay" Marching Band formed in 1920 under the leadership of Mrs.Donna Rivers-Holloway. The band has performed at millions of football games, Mrs.Holloway left to stay in contact with her husband after he was deployed and the band program had collapsed after she left. It wasn't until 1950 the band was resurrected under the direction of Mr.John Bradford ,and since he was a retired marine he taught the band the military way of marching. The purchase of new equipment, new uniforms, new instruments. new drums was purchased through fundraising and the school since North Bayshore is a school that has a lot of money. The band grew from 50 members to 200 at its highest in 1965. During Mr.Bradford's 20 years with The Spirit Of The Bay the band won numerous awards for marching as well as concert contests. He also started the beginner band for 4th graders along with the junior high bands. Mr. Bradford left in 1985 after a 20 year career with The Spirit Of The Bay. The next five years were a rough time for the band since the band had went through 4 directors and 2 parents. The band had went from 200 members to 15 members. In 1988 we saw dramatic changes to the band program with the hiring of Head Director Mr.Patrick Reed and Assistant Director Mrs.Debra Weaver. The band switched back to corps-style after the hiring of the 2 new directors . A flag corps and baton twirliers were introduced as the band changed. In 5 years, the band grew to 250 members. In that time, the name "Spirit of the Bay" was given to the band in honor of their hard work after winning state music festivals, and placement in the all-state bands by The State Of New York. Now the Spirit Of The Bay is under the direction of Head Director Mr.James Maxiell and assistant directors Mrs.Carly Underwood & Mr.Jake Philips. The Spirit Of The Bay is looking to continue entertaining and impressing the fans
