Congrats to our finalists and medalists in division 2 and 3, and we must recognize Roland on his division 3 sweep! He took the gold in every circuit. That doesn't happen too often. Now on to division 2!

I'm excited for the league but not for my drum corps .. sadly we are sitting out this season to.raise funds.

I started the Split-Tour spreadsheet. I won't post daily results, but I want to post the results for opening day to give you an idea of the format and to explain the scoring. Usually the results will be posted weekly.

The split tour will be an interleague competition. I will rank everyone based on their scores at each event and award points accordingly. For example, Dark Knights scored the highest on January 22. On the spreadsheet, the score looks like “1st -79.660 (75).” That means Dark Knights had a 1st-place score of 79.660 and earned 75 points. Every group will have a rank before their score, but that rank only describes how they scored for the day and won't always represent their overall standing after the points are totaled; thus, the “1st” before Dark Knights score only means that they had the 1st-place score at that event.

In addition, there will be bonus points awarded to the groups who place in the top 3 of their division, but there are rules that apply. For instance, if there are 1 or 2 groups in the division at a particular event, 0 bonus points will be awarded. Here’s how the bonus points will be awarded.

3 GROUPS IN THE DIVISION:
10 bonus points awarded to 1st in D1, 20 bonus points awarded to 1st in D2, and 30 bonus points awarded to 1st in D3.

4 GROUPS IN THE DIVISION:
10 bonus points awarded to 1st and 2nd in D1, 20 bonus points awarded to 1st and 2nd in D2, and 30 bonus points awarded to 1st and 2nd in D3.

5 OR MORE GROUPS IN THE DIVISION:
10 bonus points awarded to the top three in D1, 20 bonus points awarded to the top 3 in D2, and 30 bonus points awarded to the top 3 in D3.

I understand that it isn't a perfect system. In fact, this entire split tour is a work in progress, but I want to try it this way and see how well it works. We always can modify it later. Division 2 and 3 groups will almost always score lower than a division 1 group, but we shouldn’t punish a division 1 group for having more experience. They earned it. The point is that it won’t always be a perfect equal playing field, but I find it boring to separate the divisions when we can compete together as a league and develop creative ways to make it more of an equal playing field. It will be an interesting season, for sure.

The points aren't totally accurate, because everyone didn't have a show on Saturday, February 4th. When we do this again next season, or whenever, try to apply to Saturday events, or you won't get all of your points ;)

Nonetheless, regardless of not having a Saturday show, FAME totally outscored CLASS last week. Thank you division 2 and 3 corps for earning those team bonuses! It helps. Come on CLASS division 2 and 3? Where are you?

Good luck this Finals week everyone! Scores are very close! (In all of the divisions and circuits)

Will we do a split tour next season? - I say, "Yes," but I want feedback. Does everyone like it? If yes, is there anything you believe we should change? If not, why don't you like it?

I know, one change I will make is upping the tier to 4. Tier 3 events don't work. Some groups were unable to perform because of the event filling up because of people clicking on the wrong event and because of groups who weren't creating shows (hence, you see "pending" next to their division) joining league events. I made them tier 3s, because I attempted to make "East" and "West" as even as possible; thus, if 15 groups apply to the western tour, 15 groups must apply to the eastern tour; also, I never thought we would have 39 active members this season.

Let me know what you think about the split tour.

And I love the split tour! Makes things more interesting. Are you gonna keep the same East/West idea or maybe think about some different themes?

I'm not really sure about using another theme. I guess, it's possible that we can come up with another one. We haven't actually done a theme, per say, in awhile. Usually I just pick various stadiums. Maybe, we can take the tour to another continent or two?
